Ship lighting for interior spaces has many similarities with regular lighting for offices and buildings. Nevertheless, additional functional requirements are often imposed on the lighting on board a ship. Ship lighting requires, for example, that separate lamps have a form of anchoring, and that fixed luminaires can be attached to walls or ceilings in such a way that they are sufficiently resistant to vibrations. Ship fixtures must also be able to withstand greater fluctuations in the power supply: the on-board network is not always as stable as the power supplied by a fixed power plant.
In addition to specific functional requirements, design requirements are increasingly being set for, in particular, interior lighting for ships. More than ever before, the crew places high demands on the immediate living environment on board, taking the environment from home or office as a benchmark. Glamox has been responding to this need for not only high-quality, but also modern and aesthetically appealing ship fittings for years.
Everywhere on board the use of LED as a light source is increasing strongly. The choice of LED lighting on board has several advantages:
• Significantly lower power consumption
• Extremely long service life, which makes changing the light source superfluous
• Wide range of colors, various shades of (warm) white light (adaptable to the use of each room)
• New design options for lighting fixtures
For new construction of ships, the LED lighting fixture has already outpaced the conventional variant in terms of numbers sold. Partly as a result of the rapidly growing range of beautifully designed lighting fixtures with maximum functionality and years of service life, the choice nowadays is predominantly for LED luminaires on board.
Within the group of interior lighting we distinguish the following subgroups:
• Bed | desk: cabin lighting fixtures, including bedside reading lamps and desk lighting
• Downlights: all forms of round recessed spotlights, rotatable, dimmable, various designs and in LED
• Ceiling / other: all surface-mounted and recessed luminaires for the ceiling
• Wall: all types of wall lighting
• Bathroom / toilet: water-resistant lighting for bathrooms, including mirror fixtures
• Cool / freeze: specific lighting for cold environments such as a cold store
• Waterproof: all waterproof luminaires, such as for engine room and technical rooms
• Ex interior lighting: explosion-proof luminaires for interior spaces
