For the operation of a fire alarm system, smoke detectors are the most commonly used and therefore perhaps most important detectors.

These last items are of course intended as spare parts, to be used as a replacement for an existing system on board. In addition to the mentioned brands, TTTBV also offers conventional Orbis smoke detectors and Marine Discovery smoke detectors that can be used in conventional systems of the Consilium, Eltek and Servoteknikk brands.
Optical smoke detectors are nowadays the norm, whereas ionization smoke detectors were also used in the past. The optical smoke detectors are based on the principle of measuring the particle size of particles in the air. The modern range of Salwico Evolution detectors from Consilium is able to virtually avoid error messages, such as those caused by cigarette smoke. Based on predetermined thresholds, double wavelength measurement and automatic pollution compensation, the Salwico Evolution detectors are able to determine whether a detected particle indicates smoke development from a (starting) fire, or whether there are other types of particles, such as cigarette smoke or dust
In addition to regular smoke and heat detectors, Consilium also offers combination detectors that combine both forms of detection in one detector. The advantage of such a combination detector is that in certain rooms where the cause of a fire could be detected by both smoke and heat, only one type of detector is sufficient.
Combination detectors are also available from the Eltek Fire & Safety brand for existing systems on board.
In those places where there is a significant chance that a fire can develop quickly, flame detectors are used in addition to smoke and heat detectors. This is for example the case over main engines or oil tanks. The flame detector is specifically aimed at detecting erupting flames, and thus offers additional protection as part of the fire alarm system. For some applications, such as the use of a fire alarm system in combination with a local application extinguishing system, heat detectors are also required by class agencies.
