Glamox has been designing, producing and supplying high-quality lighting products for shipping since 1868. The supplier has since grown to become the global market leader in lighting for all types of ships, such as dredgers, offshore vessels, yachts and cruise ships.
Glamox was founded in 1947. The Norwegian engineer Birger Hatlebakk was at the cradle of the company, which in the decades after it was set to grow into the world's leading lighting company for lighting in demanding environments and market leader in marine lighting. The success of this company, which was founded in the late 1940s, was based on the special aluminum surface treatment method that Mr Hatlebakk had discovered and named "glamoxation." This method proved particularly suitable for the production of efficient aluminum reflectors, with which extra powerful luminaires could be made.
A number of successful lighting products were developed and a purpose-built factory was built in Molde, the home town of Hatlebakk. Around 1960 there were around 150 employees and there was a good basis for further expansion of the company. That also happened in the following years, in
Sweden, Denmark and the United Kingdom. By 1969 there were 470 employees. A second production site started in Finland in the 1970s. Sales companies were established in Finland, Germany and Austria. In the same 70s, exploration for oil and gas started in the North Sea, and Glamox was one of the first lighting producers to start supplying newly opened offshore installations. A third factory was established in Estonia in 1992.
Acquisition of Aqua Signal, Norselight, Høvik Lys and LINKSrechts
Since the 1980s, Glamox has made a number of important acquisitions of various strong brands in the lighting industry. In the 1980s, the Norwegian companies Høvik Lys and Norselight were taken over. In 1995 the acquisition of the world-renowned marine lighting brand, Aqua Signal, took place. The current maritime range of Glamox is a further development based on the best products from Aqua Signal and Glamox. The range of Glamox was further enriched in the 21st century. In 2009 the luxury lighting brand Luxo 2009 was taken over and in 2016 the German company LINKSrechts specialized in marine lighting. Nowadays, production and assembly takes place in factories in Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Germany, Canada and China. Glamox currently has around 1300 employees.

The Holland Standard lighting assortment is a transparent collection of lighting fixtures of Glamox Aqua Signal, composed by Theunissen, based on the Dutch market wishes and demands. The collection contains the lighting fixtures that are most requested by our Dutch customers, both installing companies and shipyards. The Holland Standard has been developed to reduce delivery times. TTTBV can deliver the products within 24 hours most of the time, instead of 4 to 6 weeks (factory delivery times).
The manufacturer
Glamox is the leading supplier of lighting solutions for the worldwide maritime and offshore market. The quality policy of the Glamox Group is in accordance with the ISO 9001 quality standard and a number of their production units are ISO 14001 certified. Moreover, Glamox has a corporate social responsibility (CSR) policy, whereby it strives to do business in a way that goes beyond compliance with laws and regulations and where its own CSR policy is built up in accordance with the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact. Since 2017, an environmental report has also been compiled annually, from which the effects of Glamox on the environment, expressed in terms of CO2 emissions and waste volumes, among other things, are reported.
The products
No less than 90 percent of the impact of a lighting fixture on the environment is determined by the energy used during use, while the production, transport and weather collection account for only 10 percent.
Glamox has set itself an ambitious goal with regard to sustainable products and production: the production of energy-efficient products, also with the help of energy-efficient light sources, whereby the production process is always both energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Because energy consumption has the largest share in the environmental impact of lighting fixtures, Glamox has focused primarily on providing an energy-efficient product range. Glamox now has a complete line of LED-based lighting: waterproof, indoor / outdoor, explosion-proof. All newly developed LED fixtures have an optimized construction for LED, whereby the energy generated is converted into light as much as possible. Thanks to the carefully developed composition of the LED luminaires in every detail, a greatly increased service life is guaranteed (> 100,000 hours), while energy consumption is considerably reduced compared to conventional alternatives (by around 50% and even up to> 90% for specific types).
Glamox also offers conversion kits for fluorescent fixtures, whereby these conventional lighting fixtures can be converted to LED lighting in less than 1 minute.
All Glamox products comply with the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive, which requires products to be developed and produced in such a way that waste equipment can be recycled properly. The ROHS (Restriction of the Use or Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is also respected by making careful choices when purchasing components and selecting suppliers.
