Seematz has been known for decades as the brand that stands for the most reliable searchlights and wipers for seagoing ships. The German company Pesch GmbH started in 1970 and focused on the development of robust, highly reliable searchlights, taking into account the demanding conditions at sea. On board a seagoing ship, searchlights are exposed to sometimes extreme conditions, such as salt, sunlight, vibrations, shocks and tube water.
In the 1980s, along with the founder of TTTBV, straight-line windscreen wipers were developed based on the same design principles as the searchlights: robust, strong and functioning under all conditions. Hereby the market knowledge of Theunissen was perfectly combined with the technical know-how of Pesch.
Seematz has become a household name and the benchmark for truly reliable searchlights and windscreen wipers for sea-going vessels. In recent years, the manufacturer has focused on developing the range, such as the development of high-quality LED searchlights.
A recent example of such a new development is the X-Light developed in 2018/2019. The Seematz X-Light is a very compact, electrically operated LED searchlight that can rotate completely around its axis (360 °). Moreover, the head of the searchlight remains fixedly connected to a single drive rod: the vertical movement of the light beam is achieved in the housing itself, by moving the LEDs instead of the entire head.
This means that the Seematz X-Light is not only more compact in comparison with a regular searchlight, but also more resistant to shocks. The Seematz X-Light is therefore very suitable for fast-sailing ships, such as pilot ships, fast ferries and ships of emergency services on the water.
The manufacturer
From its inception in 1970, Pesch GmbH has always focused on cost efficiency and production with minimal waste and works, as far as possible, with local suppliers. In addition, Pesch has always been known as a socially responsible employer, focused on high employee satisfaction and a pleasant, informal working environment.
The company accommodates a wide variety of ages who work in the company and makes no distinction between people with regard to their personal background. The relatively small company also offers interns and students the opportunity to gain practical experience during their studies.
Waste is largely separated (into 8 streams) and residual aluminum, which is produced during production, is returned for reuse in consultation with the suppliers.
The products
Seematz was the first manufacturer to launch LED searchlights. The use of LED as a light source not only reduces energy consumption, it also minimizes maintenance. The need to (often) change a halogen lamp, even in difficult circumstances, is eliminated and contributes to the well-being and safety of the crew. The new X-Light is an interesting extension of the range, whereby considerably less material is required for the manufacture of the searchlight. Thanks to the built-in focus, the searchlight is suitable for long and short distances, which means that there is no need to purchase a second searchlight.
Seematz searchlights and windscreen wipers are known for their robustness and extremely long service life. At the same time, the availability of parts for floodlights and wipers is guaranteed for 15 years, thus preventing early replacement. In addition, it is encouraged to convert a conventional searchlight to LED; for this, often only the head needs to be replaced. Both the manufacturer and TTT also provide repair on site or in the workshop to guarantee the long service life of the products.
