Eltek was founded in 1971 and has its headquarters in Drammen, Norway. Originally the company focused on telecom power supply in the harsh Scandinavian climate. This formed the basis for international expansion and expansion into segments such as industry and marine & offshore. sectors where a strong, reliable and efficient power supply is essential. Eltek is currently active in more than 100 countries, has offices and production sites in 40 countries and has around 2,000 employees.
In 2008, the generation of HE inverters was introduced by Eltek. This new generation of High Efficiency inverters is considerably more efficient in the conversion of incoming to outgoing electricity, which means that considerably less energy is lost in the form of heat. Since the introduction of the HE modules, 2,700,000 units have already been sold. This results in energy savings for users of no less than 1.5 TWh per year.
In 2016, Eltek introduced the first bi-directional inverter / rectifier in the world. With this introduction, Eltek won the Innovation Award 2016 from the Norwegian Federation of Enterprise. Until then there were two worlds, AC and DC. There was one type of converter for DC-based applications and another type for AC applications. Now there is only one, where the AC and DC output can come from the same module. The Rectiverter combines the functions of a rectifier and an inverter and eliminates the need for a static inverter.
The possibility to change the direction of the energy flow in the module in the same conversion phase distinguishes the Rectiverter from other power supplies. In the event of a power failure, the current at the DC port is inverted and fed via the built-in inverter to maintain the AC load. The DC load is then seamlessly taken over by the batteries. This also makes the static transfer switch superfluous. The Rectiverter is a combined AC UPS and DC power supply, but can also be used as an AC UPS.
The Rectiverter module has the same dimensions and mechanical design as other Eltek modules and is also a modular building block. This allows the Rectiverter to be combined with other power modules and controllers to create a flexible and scalable system.
In addition to separate power supply systems, Eltek also offers the Eltek Central Power System (CPS) concept. CPS is a high-end solution for ships and offshore installations. Hereby the separate power supplies and AC-UPS systems at various locations in a ship or platform are replaced by a closed DC bus, which can convert the current on site to the desired voltage.
The CPS is based on a central battery cabinet, which can be optimally kept in condition and possibly concentrates maintenance on one fixed location. In DP3 ships, the CPS system, based on 2 separate central battery boxes in separate zones, offers an excellent solution for achieving the required full redundancy efficiently.
Eltek offers stand-alone power modules, DIN rail modules, compact battery chargers and also complete power supply systems that can serve as main power supply or as emergency power supply (UPS). Both small 10A cabinet power supplies are available that can be clicked onto a DIN rail, as well as 500 KVA UPS systems for large installations on board platforms or ships. Eltek is particularly strong in offering DC power supplies, but also has a range of AC solutions available, with the introduction of the Rectiverter greatly improving the range of compact AC-UPS systems.
The manufacturer
Eltek believes that a strong focus on corporate social responsibility (CSR) creates long-term benefits for both its business and social environment. This is reflected, among other things, in the clear Eltek code of conduct, also for intermediaries and suppliers, and (since 2018) an overarching CSR policy. In addition, Eltek commits itself during its procurement to a "Conflict Minerals Compliance" in line with, among other things, the Conflict Free Smelter Program (CFSI), which prevents the purchase of minerals from conflict zones as much as possible.
Eltek's product portfolio meets the EU Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) guidelines, the WEEE directive (WEEE) and the registration, evaluation, authorization and restrictions with regard to chemical substances (REACH) directive. Eltek also has a greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting system according to ISO 14061-1. In 2018, Eltek scored a B here, significantly better than the industry average D in Europe. Eltek is certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001.
The products
The Eltek power supply products contribute to the environment and reduce the carbon footprint of their users by both limiting the amount of transformations and inversions of energy in the highly efficient modules, and reducing the waste of energy that results from the conversion to heat.
TTT offers the complete range from Eltek. The newest series of rectifiers and inverters works with an efficiency of 96.5%. Hereby the energy loss is reduced by more than 50% compared to the industry standard. Today, more than 2,700,000 units are already in use, which together save more than 1.5 TWh annually. The total energy saving by customers worldwide has already led to a reduction of the carbon footprint by more than 1,000,000 tons of CO2.
The new Rectiverter, introduced in 2016, offers even higher voltage conversion efficiency, because the Rectiverter is a combined rectifier and inverter in one. A much smaller and energy-efficient UPS can be offered based on the Rectiverter.
