Our Danish supplier Insatech is a specialist in the delivery of performance monitoring systems. Performance monitoring is a comprehensive methodology to allow ships to sail as efficiently and sustainably as possible. Various data is measured, both in and around the ship and with regard to route and weather conditions, for consumption.
The Insatech Performance Monitoring System, abbreviated to PMoS, collects data from all available instrumentation, manual logs, meta-data and information from external sources. By expanding the number of signals, it is even possible to identify inaccurate or malfunctioning sensors. With this, the total data set, on the basis of which the crew can make decisions to sail optimally efficiently, is always validated. Finally, the most favorable fuel consumption for the planned route can only be achieved on the basis of reliable performance indicators.
In addition to collecting a variety of data, both from on-board sensors and from sailing area, route and weather conditions, warning signals can also be set for self-determined threshold values of each measured parameter. For example, the readings from the engine management system can be linked to other data sources, such as the current torque on the drive shaft, so that data from different sources is combined into useful information for the crew.
It is also possible to accurately calculate the costs of switching on and off machinery on board, taking into account the fluctuation of fuel consumption in combination with current fuel prices. Another example is gaining insight into the optimal use of existing generator sets. Preventing generators from running in parallel at low loads saves both fuel costs and the running hours of each generator, extending the maintenance interval. Dynamic information about the trim of the ship can also be monitored, for example, whereby roll and pitch movements can be adjusted using predetermined limit values for more energy-efficient propulsion.
These are just some of the examples of the benefits that the real-time availability of a large amount of data within the Insatech PMoS provides to the crew. By also comparing that data between comparable ships within an existing fleet, adjustments can also be made from shore to allow the managed ships to sail as efficiently and sustainably as possible.
Insatech specializes in carrying out installation work on board with the minimum possible impact on ship operations. To this end, Insatech works with a team of experienced engineers, who are well informed about the exact scope of the work prior to the installation work. In addition, a careful planning is made prior to the work, in close consultation with the owner. At his request, certain activities can also be partly carried out by the company's own crew.
For more extensive installation work, for example, it is often opted to go on board with a team and to ensure the proper placement of sensors and instrumentation during the voyage (so-called 'sail-along'). Where appropriate, prefabrication will also be used as much as possible in consultation with the customer, such as for the installation of a Coriolis mass flow meter near the main engines.
